Prior Charities

2006
TCI National Cancer Society

This year the Chief Minister has selected a cause very important not only to himself but to the whole community, CANCER. This insidious disease has possibly touched everybody’s life at some point in time if not with themselves with a family member, friend, loved one or acquaintance.

Both the “Turks & Caicos Cancer Foundation” and “Turks & Caicos National Cancer Society” are striving to help families stricken by this disease and also to help guard against cancer by preventative means.

The 3rd Annual “Chief Minister’s Cup” will now endeavour to do all in its power to raise whatever amount possible to help these two exceptional cancer charities.

2005
“THE TURKS AND CAICOS AIDS AWARENESS FOUNDATION”

The TCAAF has set itself an outstanding goal of constructing a much-needed Youth Centre on Providenciales. It was with great pride and achievement the “Chief Minister’s Cup” was able to provide a helping hand to this extremely worthy and important cause by raising $60,000 towards their objective. In addition, a generous individual paid a private donation of $25,000.

The Chief Minister applauds the TCAAF for striving hard to raise the consciousness needed to combat the stigmas associated with AIDS and raising awareness in our communities about the spread of HIV/AIDS. Through a unique partnership with the National Aids Program the TCAAF focuses on educating the youth and the public at large about HIV/AIDS.

2004
“THE JUNIOR GOLF ASSOCIATION”

The Tournament raised an impressive $40,000.00 on behalf of the Junior Golf Association. The Association’s goals and objective is to implement and introduce Junior Golf Programs throughout the schools in the various Islands, which in turn will inspire the values of teamwork, discipline, and good sportsmanship, responsibility and promote skill building for our students.

For the first time golf is becoming a national sport which was evidenced by a predominantly Belonger team coming third in the Caribbean Classic hosted in the Bahamas in May 2005. This is a wonderful achievement in itself and everyone in the community should be extremely proud.

The Chief Minister was delighted to assist this worthy cause and hopes to help again sometime in the future.
